Developer Spotlight

Thorsten WaltherThorsten Walther, a Software Architect in Ostfildern, Germany, is in our Customer Spotlight this issue. Thorsten’s been using Java since 1999. His company, InnoJasa, provides software development and project management services. Recently, with the idea of creating a service portal for freelance IT services vendors, Thorsten began looking for a tool to develop high-quality Java applications that would let him first create UML models, and then the code itself. That’s when he found OptimalJ.

“I generated 70 percent of the code with OptimalJ,” says Thorsten.

“It saved me a lot of time. I can focus on architecture matters.”

Thorsten says he took time to learn how to use OptimalJ and its many features: “You can quickly create quality applications with OptimalJ, and it’s especially good for creating J2EE applications.” He notes several great benefits to using OptimalJ: “It generates the back end of the application very quickly, and with a high level of quality. All the session and entity beans are generated—which is a hard, labor-intensive process to do by hand. Because I can focus on an application’s design with OptimalJ, I can see any problems before I develop the application itself.”

Before he used OptimalJ, Thorsten had used another generation tool for EJBs, but found OptimalJ much more user-friendly. “I had no previous MDA experience,” says Thorsten; “OptimalJ is a complete solution, not only for code generation but also for creating Domain models.”

When he’s not wearing his Software Architect hat, Thorsten enjoys a variety of sports: mountain biking, jogging, tae bo, and snowboarding in Austria and Switzerland. Within three years, Thorsten wants to move to the United States, join his brother (who’s already there) and start a business.
