Bloor hails new Uniface 9 as ‘must-see product’

Compuware has announced the general availability of its Uniface development environment, version 9. The new version, 9.1, has been significantly enhanced, with support for XHTML and service-oriented architecture for Uniface developers creating Web applications, and multiple device support for applications destined to be used on PDAs and mobile phones. Support for Unicode, meanwhile, lets developers create applications with support for international character sets. Analyst firm Bloor Research praised Compuware’s commitment to continuing to develop Uniface over the past 20 years, to incorporating emerging technologies and to supporting the product’s large worldwide user base. Bloor analyst Philip Howard said that Uniface 9 is ‘a must-see product for anyone considering an investment in application development.”

Accurate requirements gathering critical to application quality: IDC

“It’s impossible to test [applications] effectively if it’s not clear what the software is doing for the business.” This stark warning in a new White Paper from IDC Research sums up one of the main problems affecting application development and deployment today: the difficulty of gathering accurate requirements data from business stakeholders and the subsequent failure of applications to meet users’ expectations. IDC estimates that 70-80% of IT project failures are due to poor requirements gathering, management and analysis. In this White Paper, IDC calls for a better alignment between requirements gathering and applications testing, and highlights Compuware OptimalTrace as a key tool to enable development teams to capture and manage requirements for applications that closely meet the needs of the business.
