  Welcome from Pete Summers

A very happy New Year to you all, and a warm welcome to the January issue of Compuware Insight, the monthly newsletter for Compuware customers.

We start 2007 by bringing you News of a prestigious award conferred upon Compuware’s Covisint platform by the healthcare industry, and a service from Compuware Professional Services that can help you better capture and manage business requirements when developing and maintaining applications.

In the Development section, we hand over to the analysts, as we find out why Bloor Research is getting excited about the new version of Uniface, and why IDC sees OptimalTrace as key to developing effective business applications. You can also learn what’s new in the latest version of Compuware’s OptimalJ development environment.

In the Quality section, we bring you news of the beta version of TestPartner 6.0.0, and a new webcast from Forrester and Compuware that looks at best practices for ensuring application quality throughout the life cycle. Meanwhile, test-driven development and Compuware’s tools for continuous integrated testing are the focus of a new ‘Lunch Break’ PDF from publisher ADT.

Don’t miss our two new White Papers in this month’s Performance section, which give you the lowdown on application performance management for .Net and for Citrix environments. For those of you responsible for ensuring application performance in Web Services environments, we have a new webcast that explores the best approaches to this thorny problem.

Finally, in the Enterprise section, we help you calculate the ROI of your Compuware mainframe tools with our Value Improvement Program, and you can find out how Compuware testing and debugging tools came to the rescue of one major provider of mainframe customer communication management applications.

As always, I hope that you enjoy this issue of Insight and find it useful. We would love to receive your feedback, comments and questions, so please don’t hesitate to email us here.

Best wishes

Pete Summers, EMEA Marketing Director

Avoid the requirements trap with Business Requirements Management

“It doesn’t matter how well you manage your requirements if you aren’t dealing with the right requirements in the first place.” With this quote, Forrester analyst Carey Schwaber neatly outlines a scenario with which IT executives will be wearily familiar – the difficulty of obtaining accurate and workable requirements data from business stakeholders when developing and introducing new systems.

To help your organisation develop systems that accurately meet the needs of the business, Compuware Professional Services offers a comprehensive Business Requirements Management solution. Combining the project delivery expertise of Compuware’s professional consultants with the company’s award-winning requirements gathering and implementation tools, the solution provides a flexible framework that you can customise to meet the particular characteristics of each new development project you undertake.
