When one of the world’s largest law firms moved its applications from a LAN to a WAN environment, it promised users that performance would stay the same or get better. Yet while the WAN made sense operationally, IT managers at Reed Smith were aware that there was an increased risk of user-side performance problems. It installed Compuware Vantage to monitor WAN users’ experience from the client side. The investment soon paid off, as IT staff started to notice unusual behaviour on the network that could compromise performance. Vantage’s proactive monitoring and email alerting have already allowed Reed Smith to address performance issues before they become a problem, and the firm intends to broaden its use of Vantage as it moves increasingly to a WAN environment for its 1,300 lawyers in 20 cities worldwide.
