  Welcome from Pete Summers

Welcome to the March 2007 issue of Compuware Insight, the monthly newsletter for Compuware customers.

In this issue we bring you News of Compuware’s recent strong financial results and review some of the milestones achieved during the third quarter.

In the Development section, you can find out about the new Uniface Application Platform Suite, see what the world’s press is saying about Uniface 9.1 and learn about requirements-driven testing in our new webcast. OptimalJ users, meanwhile, will find a handy tip for increasing the performance of OptimalJ applications.

In the Quality section, we bring you news of Compuware’s new Quality Management solution, helping you to take QA to the next level across your organisation. You can read about our new service and view an on-demand webcast with top tips for improving software quality through repeatable processes. Finally, a new service pack for TestPartner 5.6.0 adds support for Internet Explorer 7.0 and VBA 6.5.

The focus is on end-user experience monitoring in this month’s Performance section, with a free demo CD that will show you how to identify and fix application performance problems on the user side. For anyone currently considering migrating applications from a LAN to a WAN, we reveal how one major law firm managed the transition with no loss of performance. And we look at the pros and cons of moving to enterprise IP telephony, in a new opinion piece.

Finally, in the Enterprise section, we return to the critical topic of data security and the risks posed by authorised and unauthorised internal users. A wealth of new materials will help you assess and address the risks to your own organisation. We also show how you can safely reduce IT costs through the more efficient management of MIPS consumption, with a new brochure outlining our MIPS management solutions.

As always, I hope that you enjoy this issue of Insight and find it useful. We would love to receive your feedback, comments and questions, so please don’t hesitate to email us here.

Best wishes

Pete Summers, EMEA Marketing Director

  Automated Software Quality

Take software quality to the next level with Quality Management
If your organisation relies on ad hoc testing processes for each new application, you are probably not making the most efficient use of your testing time and resources. As a result, software quality may suffer and you may also be spending more time in testing than necessary.
Learn more about Quality Management with our new webcast
Organisations that have implemented automated software testing tools are ready to take the next step – into holistic Quality Management. This month’s on-demand webcast reveals how testing tools alone don’t guarantee quality, and shows how an organisation-wide approach to quality management results in better quality and greater efficiency.
TestPartner 5.6.0 service pack adds support for Internet Explorer 7.0
Developers of web-based applications can now test them in Internet Explorer 7.0, with the newest Service Pack for Compuware’s TestPartner tool. Supporting IE7.0’s new features, including tabbed browsing, Instant Search and the Favorites Center, TestPartner 5.6.0 Service Pack 1 is available to download now from Frontline.

  Application Performance Management

Monitor your apps from the user’s perspective – get your demo CD today
Compuware’s End-User Experience Monitoring solutions allow you to monitor how each individual user is experiencing an application – whether they’re accessing it from their desk, from a laptop or from a mobile device.
Reed Smith turns to Vantage for end-user experience monitoring
When one of the world’s largest law firms moved its applications from a LAN to a WAN environment, it promised users that performance would stay the same or get better.
Are your networks ready for VoIP?
While VoIP offers fantastic cost benefits to the business by moving voice traffic on to the data network, at the majority of organisations those networks have not been tested for VoIP performance.

  Enterprise

Address the biggest security threat to your data: end users
While most enterprises are adept at preventing security breaches from the outside, few are able to address internal threats with the same level of sophistication. Yet it is internal users that present the greatest risk to corporate data privacy, whether breaches are malicious or accidental.

Reduce costs without increasing risk, through better MIPS management
Businesses are always looking to reduce costs, but strategies like outsourcing, cutting headcount and using cheaper products can be risky. Before considering these options, companies should investigate the potential for risk-free cost reduction through more efficient MIPS consumption.
