Ministry of Sound pioneers interactive drinks service

Legendary London nightclub the Ministry of Sound has installed new interactive tabletop applications from Escapism Media.  The applications, embedded into consoles in the club’s Mini Bar, allow customers to order drinks, play games and flirt electronically with other clubbers. Escapism Media built a simple touch-screen interface for the applications using Compuware OptimalJ, allowing customers to beat queues at the bar by ordering drinks directly from their table. The application has proved so popular that the club intends to expand its scope with new modules for online shopping and ordering taxis.

Rewriting in Uniface helps Xtenso to market-leading position

Belgian healthcare applications specialist Xtenso needed a new development environment that would make its OAZIS applications suite easier to update and maintain. With Belgian healthcare regulations changing monthly, the new development tool had to be agile, easy to learn and supportive of likely future technological and regulatory developments. The company invested eight million euros on a full re-write in Uniface, and has never regretted the decision – today it is the top healthcare applications provider in the country, and is eyeing opportunities in markets abroad.

Profit from the software-as-a-service trend with Uniface

Lines of business in organisations of all sizes are increasingly looking to outsource non-core software systems by asking vendors to provide them with software as a service (SaaS).  IDC believes the ease of use and predictable cost of SaaS will see it become a $10.7 billion market by 2009. Compuware’s Uniface development environment is the ideal solution for developers looking to offer their applications as a service, with its configurability, integration capabilities with other systems, and multiple options for web and thin-client deployment. This month’s featured white paper outlines how you can offer your Uniface-based applications as a service, and profit from the growing popularity of SaaS.
