  Welcome from Pete Summers

Welcome to the September issue of Insight, our monthly newsletter for Compuware customers.  I hope that you have managed to take some time off over the summer and have returned to work fully re-charged.

In this issue, we bring you news that Compuware Changepoint 11 has earned the praise of AMR Research for its ability to track and manage IT investments; a task that is becoming critical as CFOs cast an ever more watchful eye over IT spending.

The developers among you can read how rewriting its application suite in Uniface helped Xtenso to the market-leading position in the Belgian healthcare applications market; while London nightclub the Ministry of Sound has banished bar queues by installing a tabletop drinks-ordering application built with OptimalJ.

In our Quality section, we look at how Czech Post future-proofed the national public tenders website by performance testing for future data and user volumes using Compuware’s Application Performance Assurance solutions.  And those of you responsible for application performance can read a feature article that aims to solve once and for all the problems of ‘finger-pointing’ and ‘passing the buck’ when users encounter applications performance issues.

Finally, in our Enterprise section, we look forward to the International DB2 User Conference, where Compuware will be presenting its performance optimisation tools for the DB2 environment, and you can see a webcast on mainframe performance testing.

As always, I hope that you enjoy this issue of Insight and find it useful.  We would love to receive your feedback, comments and questions, so please don’t hesitate to email us here.

Best wishes

Pete Summers, EMEA Marketing Director.

Gartner names Compuware a leader in IT project and portfolio management

Mid-sized and large enterprises increasingly need software solutions that can help them run IT like a business. To manage IT efficiently, organisations need sophisticated project and portfolio management (PPM) tools that can manage IT from a business perspective. Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant of PPM vendors places Compuware’s Changepoint solution in the Leaders quadrant, scoring highly on the twin criteria of completeness of vision and ability to execute. Gartner notes that, unlike other providers, Compuware Changepoint also supports Application Life-cycle Management and IT Service Management processes in addition to pure-play project management.

Changepoint helps with non-project-related IT resourcing: AMR

One of the biggest challenges for IT directors is tracking and managing ongoing activity that is not related to a specific project. AMR Research praises Compuware Changepoint 11 for enabling IT departments to track resource allocations, tasks and costs for day-to-day IT maintenance and support activity.  “Providing this level of visibility is critical for companies that want to optimise not only their investments in new technologies, but ensure that the operations budgets are being directed at the services that deliver the most value to the business,” says AMR’s Dennis Gaughan.

Ask the Expert: How does IT Portfolio Management support IT Governance and enable IT alignment?

With senior executives increasingly demanding a full business case for every dollar spent on IT, CIOs are having to assess the cost, risk and value to the business of every investment and project they undertake.  In this month’s ‘Ask the Expert’ column, we look at how organisations can use IT Portfolio Management tools like Compuware’s Changepoint 11 to track and assess IT investments and ensure that they are aligned with the overall aims of the business.  Read Meta Group’s guidelines for successful IT portfolio management, and find out how organisations with effective IT governance structure in place consistently prove to be more profitable and more cost-efficient than those without.
