How well is your IT department aligned with your organisation’s business strategy and objectives?

This month we look at IT Governance, and in particular at how IT departments can achieve a better balance between IT demand and IT supply.

How does your business compare?
Our Computerworld survey shows that firms are struggling to balance demand for new projects with the supply of IT services. While 95% of the senior IT executives believe that aligning with the business is critical, a third say their organisation is ‘not at all effective’ at managing IT demand or communicating the business value of IT.

Expert insight and advice
Charles Emond has 22 years’ experience as a CIO and software company founder. In our featured article he shares his insights and advice for forging closer links with the business – and for managing the IT department as a business in its own right.

CIOs must get demand side right
Most CIOs are more comfortable managing IT supply than IT demand. But with business becoming increasingly dependent on technology, CIOs must learn to manage and prioritise demand in light of the business’s overall strategic objectives. Our round-table session reveals the challenges and concerns of some real-life CIOs.

Webcast: Modernising mainframe portfolios
The mainframe has been pronounced dead many times, but the truth is that legacy mainframe systems contain data and processes that remain vital to the organisation. In this month’s webcast, thought leaders from Gartner and Compuware look at how mainframe applications can be brought up to date with modern systems environments.

We hope you find this month’s newsletter useful and stimulating. We are always keen to receive your feedback and suggestions for future content, so please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

The team at Compuware

White Paper: “Current State of Supply and Demand Management in IT”

This past April, Computerworld set out to understand the priorities of IT leaders in managing IT supply and demand within their organisations. After surveying director-level and above IT professionals in organisations with 1,000 or more employees, the conclusions include:

  • Nine out of 10 respondents feel it is essential to agree with business counterparts on decision-making criteria to evaluate demand and obtain visibility and control into projects
  • Only 28 percent of respondents focus on balancing supply and demand
  • More than half the respondents appear to be managing supply and demand using an ad hoc approach
