White paper: Reduce the risks of managing Web Services environments

Service-oriented architectures are emerging as the most flexible and cost-effective way to orchestrate business processes between existing heterogeneous applications and platforms, but this leaves IT teams with the task of having to manage many different technologies. When something goes wrong, whole teams of IT specialists are needed to analyse the problem to try to identify which technology is at fault, something that can take hours, days or even months.

This paper from Enterprise Management Associates makes the case for automating root-cause analysis of problems in Web Services environments. It finds Compuware Vantage to be an excellent solution, with its single monitoring solution for Java and .NET environments. Vantage’s built-in understanding of the different technologies involved means it can be used by just one support person to identify root causes and escalate the issue to the appropriate technology expert for a greatly reduced Mean Time to Resolution. Bayerischer Rundfunk solves application performance problems

The IT infrastructure at Bavarian broadcasting company Bayerischer Rundfunk has grown in complexity over many years, making it difficult to monitor application service quality or to understand the causes of problems like sudden application unavailability or slow response times. The company needed a solution that would allow IT staff to monitor the performance of its client/server applications from the users’ point of view and provide detailed reports about the causes of any problems. It chose Compuware ClientVantage to monitor application response times from each user’s desktop, and to identify underlying problems that can then be appropriately addressed.
